The exercise focuses on testing the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan (NOSCP), including the draft Oiled Wildlife Preparedness and Response contingency plan. A deployment of oil spill containment equipment by local service providers is also taking place.
This exercise is the second Joint Government/Industry exercise conducted in the frame of Operation Phakisa.
Operation Phakisa is an initiative of the South African government. This initiative was designed to fast track the implementation of solutions on critical development issues highlighted in the National Development Plan (NDP) 2030 such as poverty, unemployment and inequality. Operation Phakisa is a results-driven approach, involving setting clear plans and targets and on-going monitoring of progress.
